In Schönebeck (Elbe), including the incorporated localities of Ranies, Pretzien and Plötzky, there are 16 day-care centres (crèches and kindergartens) and 7 after-school centres (?Hort?) providing education and child-care. 

The existing places available for children between the ages of 0 and 14 years are sufficient to meet the statutory entitlement to child-care.
The parents decide whether they wish to take advantage of this offer and have their child looked after in a day-care institution. Attendance is voluntary.

All the children?s day-care centres in Schönebeck (Elbe) are independently operated.  
The three day-care centres in the localities of Ranies, Pretzien and Plötzky and the after-school centre in Plötzky are run by the local authority and work on the basis of different educational concepts.

Children can be registered by their parents directly in the day-care centre of their choice.
