The municipal building yard trains one person each year, with the qualification being obtained
alternating between that of Street Keeper and Garden and Landscape Attendant.

Requirements for admission as a trainee:

- Secondary school qualification
- Interest in the job, willingness to learn and work hard 
- Physical fitness, attested in an occupational medical check-up
- Teamwork ability
- Friendly manner in public

Job description: Street Keeper

Approved public sector occupation

Duration of training: 3 years

Training location: 
The theoretical part of the training course is conducted at the Vocational School in Schönebeck.
The practical training is provided by the Municipal Building Yard in the municipality of Schönebeck and,
as part of the inter-company industrial training, also by BQI mbH in Schönebeck.

Responsibilities include:

- Checking public thoroughfares and removing sources of danger and obstacles, such as ice and dirt
- Maintaining and repairing road surfaces
- Cobbling
- Civil engineering tasks such as road drainage
- Producing and setting up traffic signs
- Cleaning and maintaining traffic signs and lights
- Checking crash barriers and remedying damage
- Sowing/planting and cultivation of grasses and bushes and trees
- Winter clearance

Job description: Garden and Landscape Attendant

Approved agricultural occupation

Duration of training: 3 years

Training location:
The theoretical training is conducted at the Vocational School of the Ohrekreis District in Haldensleben.
The practical training is provided by the municipal building yard in the municipality of Schönebeck and,
as part of the inter-company industrial training, also by the association ?Garten-, Landschafts-und
Sportplatzbau e. V.? in Aschersleben.

Responsibilities include:

- Tree care and tree surgery
- Transplanting large trees
- Building walls, steps and squares
- Creation and cultivation of biotopes
- Roof and facade greening
- Recultivation of open spaces
- Conduct of plant protection and care measures
- Creation, cultivation and design of green spaces, gardens, parks, playgrounds and sports fields
