Winter Clearance

 


Under the relevant statutory regulations and within its financial and objective capabilities,
the local authority of Schönebeck (Elbe) is obliged, within its boundaries, to remove any hazards to traffic caused in winter by snow or ice on its road surfaces and cycle paths by means of removal and gritting.
With regard to the footpaths this only applies insofar as, in accordance with the Hazard Prevention Regulation of the Town of Schönebeck (Elbe) issued on 2 December 1993, the local authority is explicitly responsible for removal and gritting, rather than residents.

Removal is carried out, in accordance with a scale setting out different urgency levels,
using 7 vehicle routes and 1 slip road for gritting materials, and by means of manual work in places such as staircases, pedestrian islands etc.
There are currently about 30 employees entrusted with removal and gritting responsibilities.

The municipal building yard has the following technical equipment for its winter clearance tasks:

- 3 large removal and gritting vehicles equipped with rotary blowers and snow plough
- 2 medium-sized removal and gritting vehicles with automatic gritter and warning sign
- 2 small removal and gritting vehicles with gritter and front brush or warning sign
