Since the creation of the municipality (Einheitsgemeinde) of Schönebeck (Elbe) on 1 January 2009, the former villages (now termed localities) east of the River Elbe  namely Plötzky (approx. 1,060 inhabitants), Pretzien (approx. 940 inhabitants) and Ranies (approx. 340 inhabitants) are now part of the town of Schönebeck (Elbe).


The former ?Verwaltungsgemeinschaft? (administrative community) no longer exists. The population of the town of Schönebeck (Elbe) currently totals around 33,888 (as at December 2010).
