The public library of the town of Schönebeck (Elbe) is located in a flat-roofed building that was constructed in 1974 as a row of shops and other amenities.
Modernisation and reconstruction work carried out in 1996 and 2008 have considerably increased the attractiveness of the municipal public library.
Since the building complex is on a level with the ground, the library is easily accessible to people with disabilities; disabled-friendly sanitary facilities have also recently been installed.

Stock that is held by the library but is currently on loan can be reserved for a small fee.

Function room

The municipal library has a function room with a capacity of about 60.
This room can be rented by clubs, societies, organisations and individuals.

The conditions under which the function room can be rented out for use by third parties are laid down in the regulations.

Terms of Use

In order to use the municipal library, it is necessary to become a registered borrower.
If children and young people between the ages of 7 and 18 years wish to use the library, they require written permission from a parent or guardian produced at the library in the presence of a member of staff.

Signing the application for registration constitutes acknowledgement of the Library Regulations.
Registration is subject to a one-off fee, the amount of which is set out in the scale of charges and fees.
Children under the age of 12 years must register once, free of charge.

To use the internet facilities, it is necessary to be a registered borrower at the municipal library.
In addition, a declaration of obligation has to be signed.
For children and young people between the ages of 7 and 18 the same applies for this as for registration as a borrower.

The municipal library offers the following services to all the schools in the town of Schönebeck (Elbe):

* General introduction to using the library
* Subject-related literature exhibitions for all year groups
* Readings for all year groups (please book 3 months in advance)
* Support for project weeks
